SUMMARY:Sabal Trail Pipeline Forum
DESCRIPTION:The Sabal Trail Pipeline project is a 515-mile pipeline that\, if completed\, will pump a billion cubic feet of fracked gas a day through the Upper Floridan Aquifer\, an ecologically crucial region and the source of 60 percent of our state’s drinking water. It is being built by a consortium of companies\, which includes NextEra\, the parent company of Florida Power & Light (FP&L)\, the same companies that are trying to impede the full implementation of solar energy power in the Sunshine State. \nThe dangers from the Sabal Trail Pipeline are part of an unfolding water crisis directly related to climate change that now threatens every part of Florida. \nThanks to our collective efforts\, two leading Democratic candidates for governor of Florida — Tallahassee mayor Andrew Gillum and former congresswoman Gwen Graham — have come out publicly against the Sabal Trail Pipeline. Throughout Florida\, at least nine county Democratic executive committee (DECs) — most recently in Miami-Dade County — have now passed resolutions against the Sabal Trail Pipeline. \nEven though our efforts to halt the construction of the Sabal Trail Pipeline are gathering momentum – we are running out of time. The pipeline could be pumping fracked gas through Florida’s wetlands and “sinkhole” country as early as this summer. \nThat’s why we’re hosting a public forum to raise awareness of the dangers the Sabal Trail Pipeline on Tuesday evening\, May 23rd in Hollywood Beach\, Florida. \nIt’s our mission to help educate the public and mainstream media\, and spur the grassroots to action — for example\, by calling and writing letters to members of Congress and other public officials\, sending letters to the editors of local newspapers\, signing our petition (we’ve already gathered over 100\,000 signatures)\, and joining the growing divestment movement to boycott the fossil fuels industry and the big Wall Street banks that fund them. \nTime is running out. If we fail to stop the Sabal Trail Pipeline\, sometime in the future — in six months or six years perhaps — the entire state of Florida may look like Flint\, Michigan\, with contaminated drinking water and dependent on bottled water for all our basic needs. Please share\, spread the word\, and join us on May 23rd to keep fighting against the fossil fuel industry\, fracking and pipelines\, and to keep working for a sustainable future based on solar and other renewable energy sources.

Events were held from Jacksonville to Miami Beach and Key West to Pensacola Beach. \nOn June 26\, 2010\, in response to the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Disaster in the Gulf of Mexico\, Hands Across the Sand went National and Global. The event was announced and the website went live allowing event organizers sign up only four weeks prior to June 26th. It became the largest gathering of people in the history of the world united against expanding offshore oil drilling and championing clean energy and renewables. Over 1000 events were held worldwide. SUMMARY:Reclaiming Florida's Future For All!
DESCRIPTION:  \nProtect Our Water! Ban Fracking! Support Renewable Energy! \nWe’ve made a lot of progress on these issues\, but we need YOU to help us push forward and educate our legislators this Spring! \nRegister here: https://goo.gl/forms/QBRZPduMJR8oSTqg2 \nWe will be calling on our legislators to: \nBan Fracking in Florida: This extreme extraction method poses risks to our environment and does not benefit the people of Florida. We don’t want to see what happened in Naples happen anywhere in Florida again! \n-Support Renewable Energy: Florida is the sunshine state\, and through the Constitutional Amendment process\, we’ve made great strides toward owning that name! Now we need the legislature to follow suit\, through legislative action\, including implementing Amendment 4. \n-Protect Florida’s Waters: From the Panhandle to the Keys\, Floridians demand clean water. Our springs\, rivers\, estuaries\, lakes\, bays and Everglades will continue to degrade\, and threaten our health\, quality of life\, and economy\, until decision-makers buy the land needed to restore and protect our watersheds. \nWe will provide transportation from several cities across the state and we will also provide training so you have the skills you need to effectively advocate! \nTraining will be offered the evening before (and on buses on the way to Tally)\, and a rally/ press conference will be held that morning! \nhttps://goo.gl/forms/QBRZPduMJR8oSTqg2\nand learn more information here: http://www.rethinkenergyflorida.org/reclaiming_florida_s_future

SUMMARY:Tell Gimenez & the Commission: Miami is a Sanctuary County
DESCRIPTION:Chair Bovo has called a special meeting to discuss Gimenez’s (illegal) order to reverse the commission’s 2013 policy that protects undocumented immigrants from ICE detainers. Gimenez’s action came within hours of Trump’s unconstitutional executive order to punish Sanctuary cities. It’s Trump’s first step to fulfilling his campaign promise of deporting 11 million+ undocumented immigrants. \nTell Gimenez & the Commission: Miami-Dade is a Sanctuary County. Tell them we are a proud immigrant community and we need our local elected officials to stand with us\, not Trump. \nThe meeting starts at 10am\, but come early to make sure you get a seat inside.

SUMMARY:Demand Bill Nelson’s Response
DESCRIPTION:Join us\, Miami-Dade Green Party\, Progress for All\, Progressive Alliance\, South Florida Water Protectors and 350 South Florida as we come together on Tuesday to demand a response to our signed petition to stop the Sabal Trail Pipeline. \nSenator Bill Nelson received our petition on December 29th\, with over 98\,000 signatures to stop the Sabal Trail pipeline. We have not heard back from Bill Nelson on this urgent petition and we are coming together to demand an answer to our petition. http://www.change.org/SabalPipeline \nThe Sabal Trail pipeline is a 500 mile long pipeline endangering Florida’s aquifers\, the health of millions of people and wildlife. The joint venture between Spectra Energy Corp. NextEra Energy\, Inc. and Duke Energy want to bring this pipeline in direct contact with Florida’s pristine water resources. Scientific studies have shown these pipelines always leak and there are hundreds of toxic chemicals flowing inside this pipeline besides natural gas. \nNow more than ever our water is under attack and we most fight back for the sake of our health\, our environment and our children’s future. \nSenator Nelson was a critic of the Keystone XL pipeline and voted against it. We ask that Senator Nelson\, as a democratic representative for the people\, stand with the people against Florida’s Sabal Trail pipeline and it’s dangerous infrastructure. \nPlease join the alliance of oganizations coming together to protect our water by sending us a message on https://www.facebook.com/Progressiveall
